Legitimate interest and consent are the legal bases in GDPR Article 6(1)(f) and 6(1)(a). Nothing on this site makes automated decisions about you.
Visit counts
When you open a page, the site records which page it was, the website that sent you (just its name, such as google.com) and whether you’re on a phone or a computer. These are kept only as daily totals. It also counts which blog posts are read and which projects are clicked.
To count unique visitors, the server mixes your IP address and browser details with a secret and the date, and stores only the resulting one-way code with the page and time, never the address itself. The code changes every day, codes are deleted every night once they’re two days old, and the recent ones show how many people are on the site right now.
Services your browser talks to
- Vercel, which hosts the site.
- OpenFreeMap, for the map tiles on the home page.
- Supabase, the site’s database and file storage: images uploaded through the site’s editor load from it, and the Visitors page reads and saves notes there.
Fonts are served by this site, and GitHub details are fetched by the server, so your browser never contacts GitHub.
Notes you leave
On the Visitors page you can leave a drawing, a short message and a name, or stay Anonymous. Notes are saved and appear once approved. Approved notes stay while they’re shown; declined notes are deleted 30 days after they were posted, and notes that were never reviewed after 90 days. To have one deleted sooner, email hey@devios.dev.
Error reports
If something breaks while you’re on the site, it records the error message, the page, and your browser’s name, version and operating system, so the bug can be fixed. The server records its own crashes the same way. Reports are stored without your IP address, repeats of the same error are counted rather than stored again, and errors that haven’t recurred for 90 days are deleted.
Kept in your browser
Your theme choice, the achievements you’ve found and the ticks in the little week calendar are saved in your browser’s local storage. They never leave your device, and clearing this site’s data removes them.
Where your data goes
The database, file storage and Studio sign-in are hosted by Supabase in Stockholm, Sweden, and the site’s server code runs on Vercel in Stockholm. Vercel, as the host, sees each request as it arrives, the way any web host does, and keeps its own server logs for about an hour. Map tiles come from OpenFreeMap’s servers.
Your rights
You can ask to:
- see the data held about you and get a copy of it
- have it corrected or deleted
- have its use limited, or object to uses based on legitimate interest
- withdraw your consent for a note, by asking for it to be deleted
Email hey@devios.dev and you’ll get an answer within a month. Visit codes can’t be traced back to you, so there’s usually nothing about your visits to find. If you’re unhappy with how your data is handled, you can complain to Sweden’s data protection authority, IMY.
If your LinkedIn recommendation appears on the home page and you’d rather it didn’t, email the same address and it will be taken down.
